Custom profile fields

First of all i want to thank developers for impressive work that they have done.

I would like to know if it is/will be possible to add custom fields to the social profile. I am building a scientific network so instead of focusing on members turn ons i would like them to enter more information on their education background and so on.

I am not a professional programmer but if you would give me pointers on where this information is handled i would change it myself.

Thanks again

Dennis

Hi Dennis, thank you so much for signing up as a premium tribe member. The support for the custom fields will be in the next release of Anahita Social Engine where we will be taking out the existing fields and provide ways for social applications to inject custom fields into people and groups profiles.

PS: We do not answer support questions on the Atrium group, but if you could please post your questions on the designated groups and projects for the premium tribe members we will be happy to answer them for you.

Hi Rastin, Anahita looks great! It provides a lot of functionality while getting out of the developer's way at the same time.

I wanted to jump in on this thread and ask about the custom profile fields as well. I downloaded 1.0 Alpha of the Social Engine, and I noticed that the only place to "customize" the fields was in the configuration where you could show or hide existing fields. I agree with Dennis that custom profile fields are a must-have feature. Do you have any idea when the next release containing custom profile fields will be?

Thanks!

@Cory the 1.0 alpha is really old now. A lot has changed and a lot is changing in the 1.6 release :)

The general idea is that we have taken out all the existing fileds except the most basic ones: name, description, gender. Then we are providing APIs so social apps can inject fields to people and group profiles.

Still new to this and trying to understand -

So, to get a host of custom fields, would I need to build my own social app?

For the time being yes!

When the next releases of Anahita Social Engine are ready we might provide a generic social app for injecting custom fields or just make a tutorial available with an elementary social app which you can use as starting point and customize for yourself.
