Social Engine Solution Selection with Mobile Application

Hello all,

We are developing a mobile application and we have looked into many social engine frameworks (shindig, elgg, ning and anahita) for the web side.

We will make the definition in a couple of days, since we have 30 days to go live on our first version of the app.

We know how to develop for iPhone/Android/RIM and have good experience in PHP (more experience in Java, JavaScript and HTML).

Anyhow, here are the features we are looking for: recent activities, discography, photos, music and video streaming, news, fan wall and simple events (just announcing it, location, share photos and tell that I am going). All the nodes with comments related to it. Of course, Facebook and tweeter connections.

By looking at the resources, it should not be too complicated to do most of this. But advisement from the PROs would make us much more relaxed (or not!) with our decision (we are pending to use Anahita at this point).

Any help and/or insights would be appreciated.

Hi Augusto,

sounds nice. I am missing SocialEngine 4 (http://www.socialengine.net) and phpFox (http://www.phpfox.com) in your list.

Hey Bernd,

Thanks for your pointers...

Went to SocialEngine 4, but I was not able to check their API to see if we can do a mobile version of the site.

phpFox, the same thing. No info on API.

But both seem to be very complete on what we need. Just not sure if they have a good API to allow us to develop the mobile apps.

Well, after analyzing we decided to bet on Anahita for our project, due to its simple nature to resolve some complex issues!

I will keep all posted on our trials and tribulations during the next month of our project, sharing our experience, and of course seeking for help!
